Amazon Kindle 3G Review

Amazon Kindle 3G

When Amazon introduced the original Kindle in 2007, many people were skeptical if the product would indeed take off, considering it cost nearly $400.  In less than six hours after its release in November of that year, the device sold out and it was not until April of the following year that stocks were replenished.  Since then, six other versions of the device have been released, the latest being the two versions of the Kindle 3 in 2010.

The Kindle Wi-Fi and the Kindle 3G are two available versions of the Kindle 3, the main difference being that the Amazon Kindle 3G has connectivity through Wi-Fi networks as well as global 3G access while the other one is limited just to Wi-Fi.  The device includes a 6” E Ink Pearl display screen, making it possible to read even outdoors.  It is able to hold 3500 e-books and can download new e-books in a minute.  Made of graphite, this e-book reader is quite light, making it possible to take with you wherever you choose to go.

The Amazon Kindle 3G has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from customers who have ordered and used it.  Many book lovers laud the fact that this e-book reader has revolutionized the way they read their books, enabling them to take the device with them and to go through more than one e-book and eliminating the need to take more than one book when on vacation.  Another positive aspect of this e-book reader is that the font size is adjustable, making it possible for readers with eyesight problems to change to a larger size of font instead of having to squint, desperately trying to decipher what may be written.  The fact that the battery can last up to two months is yet another positive trait, limiting the amount of electricity that needs to be used since it takes a while before the battery needs to be recharged.  Easy connectivity to both Wi-Fi and 3G has made downloading of e-books a cinch and customers enjoy the getting their hands on all the latest e-books sooner rather than later.

Among the handful of negative reviews, the most prevalent concern seems to be what the manufacturer calls a “software issue”.  Customers have complained about the difficulty they experienced trying to revive their device from “sleep” mode.  Others have expressed frustration at having to deal with this e-book reader not connecting immediately to the Wi-Fi network they have at home, going through several tries and shutting it off before it actually gets around to finally connecting.

After going through all the reviews that have been posted online, it seems that the Amazon Kindle 3G is still the e-book reader that has received the most praise.  Other e-book readers have been produced and are sold at lower prices but the Kindle remains the top choice among customers who have tried several brands.  It is a convenient alternative for book lovers and has simplified the manner in which books are read and bought.
